UnBiblical Like Conduct

Jehovah’s Witnesses would have you to believe that in some weird unbiblical Pharisaic way that playing sports or being part of a sports team somehow will take you away from God.  They hinge this endocrinal doctrine on 1Ttimithy 4:8 which has nothing to do with joining a sports team read it and you will see.  I ask what better position to place yourself in than a job that pays you to travel all over the world and provide you with a platform and resources to further the kingdom.  They would have you to believe sports encourage cheating and putting yourself ahead of everyone else.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Sports organizations are cracking down on athletes who use enhancing drugs and stripping them of their medals.  In every team sport known to man it has taken a team to win the game.  There are athletes who can play the game exceptionally well but even they need a team to win.  While sports do take a lot of dedication and ask you to put a lot of time in, taking you away from God I think not.  Walking with Christ is an everyday all day thing, it’s a life style.  He is not someone you go hang out with after school.  He is not a childhood friend.  He is like a vital organ; you wouldn’t leave home without your heart would you? Neither should a Christian athlete start a game or practice without the very one who has able you to play that sport.

The truth is we are in this world not of this world.  While the world may encourage cheating to get ahead, no one matters more than me, God can have my Sunday mornings, but Christians are of a godly nature and we know to put Christ first in all we do. Had the Jehovah’s Witness would have read the first verse of that chapter they would have found themselves. Some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and giving doctrines of the devil. it is not the sport that’s the problem but the character of the one playing the sport.
